Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning
The Director for Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning administers a comprehensive, ongoing, and integrated research-based planning and evaluation process to guide, support and assist the college with improving the quality of student learning, educational programs, academic and student support services and the administrative units of the college. The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning incorporates a systematic review of institutional goals and outcomes consistent with the college's mission.
The Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning maintains an Institutional Effectiveness Plan that incorporates a schedule of surveys, recurring assessments, program reviews, recurring reports, service area demographics (e.g., race/ethnicity, population, college enrollment, and k12 school enrollment, etc.), and progress on institutional goals.
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning administers a comprehensive program of assessment, submits reports to fulfill VCCS, SCHEV, and federal reporting requirements, and provides information and research results to the institution and programs for data informed decision-making.
Collaborates with faculty, staff and administration to design, develop and implement continuous and systematic processes for the assessment of student outcomes, academic and student support programs.
The Director uses a variety of research methodologies to provide reliable information for continuous improvement efforts and to document institutional effectiveness.
Coordinates the collection of on-going survey data through the administration of various institutional and national surveys.
The Director analyzes, interprets, and reports on data from varied sources. Reports may include findings from surveys of graduates, job placement rates, transfer rates and other information needed for assessment, evaluation and planning for programs and services. The Office is responsible for communicating results and recommendations in a timely and understandable manner.
The Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning will become the college liaison with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSOC), and will serve as liaison with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia (SCHEV) for assessment activities and coordination.
The Director is responsible for monitoring and reporting on the college's Strategic Plan.
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning is responsible for maintaining accessible documentation of all research and assessment activities.
Chairs the Institutional Effectiveness Committee, and participates in Enrollment, Marketing and Retention and Quality Enhancement Plan Committees.
Supervises and evaluates staff in the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning.
Maintains proficiency in relevant software and operating systems relevant to the work of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Research, and Planning. Participates in relevant professional development through the college, the VCCS, and professional associations and organizations.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in business, education, or other social science discipline from a regionally accredited institution, or advanced degree with experience in data or business analytics.
Required KSAs
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in research and evaluation
Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to design research, interpret results, and provide information and recommendations based upon data analysis
Understanding of strategic planning in support of the College Mission, the VCCS Mission, and meeting regional accreditation requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with PeopleSoft, SAS, SPSS, or other statistical software
Experience with SACSCOC reaffirmation of accreditation
Experience with educational program and/or institutional accreditation through an external accrediting body
Experience with program assessment
Experience with budget
Knowledge and appreciation of the community college mission
