Regional Planner, Finance Technician
The West Piedmont Planning District Commission (WPPDC), located in Martinsville, Virginia and serving Franklin, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania counties, the cities of Danville and Martinsville, and the Town of Rocky Mount, is seeking to fill two new positions.
The Regional Planner provides planning and management services to contracted municipalities within the planning district and on WPPDC projects/programs. Services provided may include project development, grant application preparation, comprehensive planning, budgeting and financial reporting, and administration of specific community development programs funded through Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Economic Development Administration, Appalachian Regional Commission, Virginia Department of Health, etc. Ability to analyze information and develop creative solutions and/or alternatives required. Oral and written communication skills and the ability to facilitate group meetings required. Computer skills including Microsoft Office required. GIS experience is desirable. Organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills are needed to be successful in the position.
The Finance Technician, under the general supervision of the Finance Director, prepares financial documents, maintains records, and produces routine reports that keep project finances on track. The successful Finance Technician will have a technical aptitude of principles and practices relating to accounting and be highly skilled in the use of computers and related software. The Finance Technician must be able to work independently and self-start assignments and have the ability and willingness to learn increasingly difficult and complex tasks while meeting established deadlines. The ideal applicant will have a working knowledge of accounting methods, terminology, principles, and procedures, and strong verbal and written communication skills. This position may also provide basic project management support for grant funded projects related to broadband, community development, and economic development.
