Job Description:
Performs general painting, finishing, and maintenance work on a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures and refinishes furniture.

Essential Functions
- Prepares, primes, sands, seals, patches and paints furniture, surfaces, buildings, and fixtures utilizing all types of painting materials such as varnish, lacquer, shellac, enamel, latex, epoxy, water- proofing and heat resistant finishes.
- Tapes, flushes, repairs and applies texturing, wallpaper, and acoustic layers on a variety of surfaces. Adjusts colors when necessary; utilizes enhanced finishing skills when appropriate; stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
- Applies materials to new construction, existing, multi- story buildings, alterations, and remodeling.
- Graffiti response and removal using a variety of available products and soda blasting.
- Repairs plaster and dry wall.
- Operates, cleans, and maintains all painting equipment, including brush, roll, sprayers, and electro-static sprayers, pumps etc. Safely stores and labels all materials.
- Responds promptly to work order requests and completes necessary records. Estimates time and materials required; and submits reports of work performed.
- Erects scaffolding, rigging and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes.
- Offers assistance and advice on materials, designs, and color; Selects premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
- Detects needed cosmetic repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by routine inspection and maintenance.
- Inspects jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Supports campus wide activities in the areas of setups, snow and ice removal and any other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent GED preferred. 2-3 years experience in professional painting is preferred. Must have the knowledge and ability to safely operate a manlift. Must be willing to receive additional training as required. Committed to following safety guidelines to protect self and others. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and provide responses in writing. Ability to use computers to read and respond to emails and to use basic applications is also required. This position requires the possession and maintenance of a valid Virginia vehicle operator's license and a good driving record.

Physical Requirements:
- Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Minimum Pay:
$21.59 - Pay Commensurate with Experience
