Waste & Recycle Tech-2nd Shift
Primarily perform tasks that include litter control and recycling/solid waste collection on the Virginia Tech campus from the hours of 2:00pm- 10:30pm. This includes working on a crew operating large and small packer trucks and various other motorized equipment for collection purposes. Position will at times, also be responsible for tasks including routine grounds and maintenance, housekeeping projects and snow removal.
Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 75 pounds or more; ability to maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling; ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department. This is a designated emergency personnel position. Must have a valid driver's license.
Previous experience working for a housekeeping and/or a trash/recycling operation. Experience in a large commercial or educational setting. Experience in general grounds maintenance and/or landscape installation and maintenance.
