Warehouse Worker
Job Description
VT Surplus has an opening for an entry level warehouse employee. Responsibilities include pick up, receiving, storing and warehousing miscellaneous types of university property determined to be surplus and ready for sale, repurposing or disposal. This position plays an important role in preparing for the university's monthly surplus auction including arranging and numbering items within the warehouse and assisting the public during preview and auction day. The position supports efficient warehouse processes while routinely interacting with the campus community. Courteous and professional communication skills are a must! Proficient driving skills to operate different larger vehicles including a 5ton truck safely through a congested campus at busy times. Position requires using many types of equipment to assist with moving and distributing surplus items. The ability to lift and carry heavy items is required. Required Qualifications
Experience safely driving larger work or farm vehicles similar to skills needed to safely operate a 5ton box truck. Ability to lift and carry heavy items up to 100 lbs. A demonstrated work ethic. Past work history demonstrating the ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision. Work or educational experience demonstrating good communication and customer service skills. Must be available to work University Surplus Auctions held 12 times per year. Must be available for occasional overnight travel. Must have or be able to obtain powered industrial equipment license for operating forklifts or other motorized moving equipment. Must have a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience driving a 5ton work vehicle (non CDL). Previous work experience that required manual labor and heavy lifting. Previous work experience in a warehouse setting with industry standard procedures. Experience with working auctions both private and online. Understanding of standard inventory control processes.
