This is a full-time professional position within Virginia Tech Student Athlete Academic Support Services. The individual will be responsible for managing the tutorial program, which includes the hiring, training, and supervising of the tutorial staff. The individual will foster an environment where academic resources are readily accessible to student-athletes by meeting their tutor needs. The position requires consistent and open communication with SAASS staff and a thorough understanding of NCAA, ACC Conference, and University rules and regulations.
Specific Duties: Recruit, hire, and train tutorial staff. Maintain relationships with various University department for the recruitment of tutors. Organize and present orientation session for tutors. Responsible for daily operations and monitoring of the tutorial program. Provide continuing education to tutors regarding academic integrity, NCAA, ACC Conference, and Virginia Tech rules and regulations. Develop, maintain and distribute tutor policy manual. Develop and maintain an up-to-date list of all tutors with their area of expertise and their contact information. Organize and coordinate tutorial sessions. Respond in a timely manner to requests for tutoring from student athletes and SAASS staff. Assess tutorial needs in cooperation with SAASS counselors. Manage and evaluate the tutorial staff. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Navigate online academic support system. Work with tutorial staff to ensure daily reports are completed. Implement efficient communications with SAASS counselors for immediate notification of issues or missed tutor sessions. Keep up to date records of student athlete and tutor meetings and ensure completion of tutor reports in the Navigagte system. Coordinate an annual tutor appreciation program. Provide supervision for student athlete study and tutorial sessions on some nights. Work with SAASS counselors, and other University constituents to facilitate success of student athletes. Maintain CRLA Tutor Program Certification. Organize and present CRLA tutor training workshops. Work with administrative assistant/payroll manager to approve and prepare biweekly payroll in TimeClock Plus system. Contribute and communicate at SAASS meetings on issues relating to the tutorial program. Develop an assessment scheme for all areas of responsibility. Assist in data collection and preparation of University reports Provide accurate and timely tutorial program reports to Director of SAASS. Other duties as assigned by the Director of SAASS.
• Master’s degree, or in process of completing a graduate degree program.
• Familiarity with, commitment to, and willingness to expand knowledge of NCAA rules.
• Interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Experience working within a student-athlete academic support department.
• Experience managing and supervising a student staff.
• Proficiency with Navigate.
• Proficiency with TimeClock Plus.
