Staff Auditor
Job Description
This position, reporting to the Director of Internal Audit, is responsible for contributing to operational, compliance, and financial audits of campus units and activities. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate professional behavior and sound judgment while working independently and as part of a team. A staff auditor must be able to apply both strong analytical skills and professional discretion in formulating recommendations for improvement in conformance with professional standards, particularly in evaluating controls and their effectiveness.
The incumbent is expected to fulfill their responsibilities with limited supervision while maintaining ongoing, open communication with OARC leadership, including the Director and project reviewer. The staff auditor is responsible for effectively disseminating results, including the preparation of written reports.
The position requires problem-solving abilities along with organizational, planning, and self-management skills. OARC leadership will rely on the staff auditor to develop effective and creative ways to assess university operations. Decisions made may impact the effectiveness and efficiency of administrative and business processes of the university; therefore, the incumbent must be able to see opportunities, communicate the risk and benefit, and assist management in establishing innovative recommendations for improvement.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, information systems, data analysis, or related field.
• Effective time-management skills to manage multiple, simultaneous projects.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare error-free documentation and correspondence in a professional and timely manner.
• Ability to absorb and apply new information and processes quickly.
• A high energy level and strong work ethic with a commitment to continuous improvement.
• Proficiency in current office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
• Experience working effectively in teams or with diverse populations.
• Periodic travel may be required for both audits and training.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
• Experience collecting and analyzing data, drawing appropriate conclusions, and developing recommendations.
• Advanced degree in a related field.
• Work experience in higher education, government agency, or other large, decentralized organizations.
• Knowledge of key applicable federal, state, and local legislation.
• Possession of or eligibility to obtain a CPA, CIA, CISA, and/or relevant professional certification.
• Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as Banner, PeopleSoft, or SAP.
• Experience with programming tools to obtain and analyze large datasets.
