Specialty Crops Technical Asst
Job Description
This position is located on the main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. Responsible for daily tasks of hydroponic vegetable operations to include managing nutrient levels, monitoring plant growth, and harvesting, and measuring plants, collecting and entering growth data per experimental designs. Supervise 1 to 3 student workers assisting in the work. This position is responsible for maintaining all research areas in a safe and presentable condition and is supervised by the faculty. Incumbent must have a valid driver’s and be able to obtain a valid pesticide applicator license. Restricted to 1500 hours/year.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of the fundamentals of hydroponic systems and how to operate them; Ability to read and understand labels, manuals, as well as written and oral instructions; Experience growing crops and basic production practices. .
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with working with multiple crops in greenhouse production; Skills in pest identification and management; Experience in a research environment. Ability to obtain a valid pesticide applicator license.
