Job Description
Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech located in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking a Sr. Manager of Microscopy Facilities in their newest addition to the Roanoke Campus.
The successful candidate will direct both the electron and laser-based microscopy core facilities at the FBRI. The director will serve a critical role by maintaining equipment and providing training, usage and image analysis support to researchers using serial block face scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and laser-based confocal microscopy at FBRI. This is a great opportunity for someone interested both in working across multiple modalities of biological imaging (including the application of state-of-the-art technology to image large volumes of tissue and reconstruct and analyze cellular and subcellular structures in three dimensions at ultrastructural resolution) and in working with, training, and providing service support to leading teams of biomedical researchers interested in neuroscience, cardiovascular science, cancer biology and immunology and infectious disease.
Required Qualifications
1) PhD in Biology, Education with Curriculum and Instruction, appropriate imaging or related fields. A MA/MS degree in a related field with substantial relevant professional experience is acceptable in lieu of a PhD
2) Significant management experience maintaining equipment and providing training, usage and image analysis support to researchers using serial block face scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and laser-based confocal microscopy .
3) Significant experience with management of electron and laser-based microscopy core facilities.
4) Comfort with supervisory responsibilities
