Senior Fiscal Technician
Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Senior Fiscal Technician provides a wide array of financial and procurement related duties. The position utilizes HokieMart to process routine purchasing transactions such as entering requisitions, generating purchase orders, receiving, and processing invoices for payment. The Senior Fiscal Tech. will ensure compliance with prompt pay policy and other University guidelines in addition to processing invoices for payment through the Virginia Tech Foundation. Analyzes system problems and recommends solutions for all purchasing issues as well as communicates with outside vendors and suppliers to resolve purchasing problems. Prepares and analyzes monthly reports, reconciles and resolves encumbrances, prepares journal entries, labor redistributions, and reconciliations from Banner and MicroStrategy for the Director of Finance. Receives and deposits cash and completes CASHNets in accordance with fund handling policies. All accounting duties must be completed within the allowable University time frames. This position also provides administrative support to the Director of Finance.
Required Qualifications
Two to three years of experience in accounting/bookkeeping such as accounts payable/accounts receivable, auditing and budgeting.
Demonstrated experience with developing/maintaining accounting/ finance policies and procedures necessary for proper internal control systems.
Ability to research, investigate, analyze, interpret and evaluate data with accuracy in work and attention to details.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications, primarily Microsoft Excel.
The ability to work independently, prioritize work, solve problems.
The ability to interact and communicate comfortably with students, staff and faculty.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Demonstrated record of successfully managing project timelines, deliverables and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
Experience in governmental, higher education and/or fund accounting.
Previous experience or knowledge working in an academic office.
Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
Demonstrated proficiency with financial systems such as Hokiemart, MicroStrategy, Banner and Chrome River Travel Expense System.
