SEEC Center Coordinator
Job Description
The Synergistic Environments for Experimental Computing (SEEC) Center and the NSF Center for Space, High-performance, and Resilient Computing (SHREC) within the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is seeking a Center Coordinator. The position coordinates center research activities and functions, along with the director, faculty and staff, and students to ensure that goals and objectives specified for the center are accomplished in accordance with the priorities, time limitations, funding limitations, or other specifications. Duties would include marketing, promoting, and coordinating center research activities with external agencies, universities, and individuals in order to increase the university’s visibility and impact in research as well as managing front-facing communication media (e.g., websites and social media) and coordinating special events (e.g., workshops).
Required Qualifications
• Experience providing administrative (or executive) support in a professional office or academic setting
• Ability to interact and communicate with a diverse population
• Experience with organizing large events (e.g., NSF workshop) and coordinating major efforts (e.g., annual reports, proposals, interdisciplinary projects)
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Proficient skills and knowledge of various computer applications, including Microsoft Office and G Suite.
• Established problem-solving, time-management, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of training and/or related work experience
• Experience with university-based systems
• Knowledge of university policies and procedures
• Skills and knowledge of advanced computer applications, including Adobe Illustrator, Overleaf (or pdflatex), web-site design and maintenance, virtual collaboration environments (e.g., Slack, Zoom, Discord, Teams), and open-source software like Linux and vim.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to increasing levels of responsibility
