Residential Learning Coordinator
Job Description
The Residential Learning Coordinator (RL Coordinator) is responsible for coordinating all building and community aspects of a residential community; create a student community oriented towards that academic and social development of residents; responsible for formulating a community development plan that focuses on individual student engagement and support, facilitated by paraprofessional staff that are hired, trained, supervised and evaluated by the RL Coordinator; perform administrative duties congruent with maintaining community standards, occupancy management, and a safe and secure environment.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in college student affairs or related field conferred by time of appointment to position. The successful candidate should also demonstrate the ability to work with a diverse student body and foster sensitivity to diversity issues in the University community.
Preferred Qualifications
Some full-time work experience in residence life or operations; staff supervision experience; knowledge of or experience with structured first year programs or other special interest program; experience with training and teaching;

About Housing & Residence Life
At Virginia Tech, students can be a part of a residential community where more than 9,000 students call 47 residence halls home, representing one of the largest residential populations in the country. The department supervises a staff of professional and student employees who provide community development and engage student learning through a curriculum based on Student Affairs’ Aspirations for Student Learning. Staff members focus on student advocacy and assist in emergency response and student conduct issues. They are also responsible for conducting floor meetings and intentional programs to educate and inform resident students of their responsibilities. Housing and Residence Life provides positive physical conditions for resident safety with health and safety inspections and routine fire drills. The department also provides daily housekeeping to the residence halls, routine and preventative maintenance, project management for renovations, fire and safety training, and summer conference housing. Housing and Residence Life also offers living-learning communities (LLCs) and residential colleges, where students are provided the opportunity to further engage across their curricular and co-curricular learning. LLCs offer a unique campus experience by integrating what you study, where you live, who you live with, and how you think about the world. Residential colleges, led by faculty principals, welcome students from any major and class year and have strong models of self-governance to create an abiding sense of community among participants.
