The Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences is seeking applicants for a Research Technician to provide responsible and skilled technical assistance in support of research projects by completing assignments; requiring proficiency of research techniques, data analysis, and record keeping.
Working knowledge of biological and chemical laboratory safety practices, procedures, and principles; experience and/or familiarity with setting up and operating a variety of laboratory equipment (thermocycler, spectrophotometer, electrophoretic apparatus, hybridization oven, electroporator, pH/redox probes); experience with interacting effectively with diverse groups; strong communication skills; experience working on multiple tasks; setting priorities and meeting deadlines; proven organizational skills; experience and/or willingness to work as a team member.
B.S. in biology, analytical chemistry, microbiology, or related field; or an equivalent level of training and/or experience; and/or M.S. degree in biological sciences or work experience in biological or analytical laboratory. Experience with molecular techniques (nucleic acid extraction and quantification; sequence analyses; PCR design; qPCR; electrophoresis; and transformation); experience with aseptic technique and bacteriological skills need in the isolation, handling, growth and characterization of bacteria from the environment or clinical specimens; experience with the disposal of biohazardous or chemical waste; working knowledge of computers and associated software, statistics are a plus. The lab desires a candidate with a strong work ethic; who is cooperative; demonstrates professional conduct and takes pride in their work.
