Research Technician
Job Description
For immediate occupancy, we are seeking motivated individuals to be trained in various aspects of Covid-19 testing in two recently established testing laboratories at the FBRI in Roanoke and FLSI in Blacksburg. These are Virginia Tech positions that support the State of Virginia Health Departments, particularly serving Roanoke, Blacksburg and communities throughout the New River Valley.
We are looking for a Research Technician who can support qPCR research activities to identify viral load in inactivated patient samples. The PCR part of this project utilizes an Eppendorf liquid handling system to populate 384 well plates with RT and qPCR reagents to be processed in a Biorad 384 qPCR instrument. The technician is expected to have experience in qPCR.
Required Qualifications
• This position requires prior experience utilizing qPCR for RNA amplification and detection using a standardized protocol.
• No experience in primer design necessary. Ideally candidate will be able to interpret and report PCR results
• Excellent communication and organization, must be detail oriented, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated ability to interact respectfully and comfortably with all individuals in a diverse, multicultural environment exercising judgment and high degree of confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
• Training in or experience with clinical diagnosis
• demonstrated experience manipulating nucleic acids
