Job Description
The Statistic Department at Virginia Tech has an opening for a Research Scientist serving as a biostatistician supporting studies within the health sciences at Virginia Tech. Write statistical methods sections and power analysis sections for grant proposals. Carry out medical economic analyses. Coordinate statistical activities with research project managers. Conduct appropriate statistical analyses using statistical languages (Stata, SAS, R, Matlab), including interpreting and presenting results. Read and review necessary biomedical and clinical research, applying appropriate and contemporary analytic techniques. Write and edit statistical methods sections for abstract and manuscript submissions. Provide complex statistical programming and analysis support for large datasets, including data from electronic health records and claims datasets.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics or Economics
Significant experience in advanced programming in SAS and R, with demonstrated experience writing advanced SAS macros to generate complex tabular output summarizing results PROC REPORT
Demonstrated experience programming in R, with applications in machine learning techniques (e.g., random forest, K-means clustering, and hierarchical clustering):
Demonstrated programming experience in Stata and Matlab : Demonstrated experience analyzing health care utilization and cost data (e.g., Lin method); Familiarity and experience using Github for reproducibility and version control
Significant experience in the application of traditional statistical modeling (logistic regression, Poisson regression, categorical data analysis, mixed effects and GEE modeling, etc)
Demonstrated relevant work experience in a health-related academic collaborative research setting, with a demonstrated collaborative publication record and experience as a co-investigator/biostatistician on NIH funded grants
Demonstrated stated experience working with large health related datasets (EHR, Claims, Biobank, etc); Demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students or student interns in quantitative research studies
