Job Description
The Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences is searching for a Research Assistant Professor of Animal Biosciences. This is a non-tenure-track, 9-month appointment with responsibilities in research (60%) and teaching (40%). The successful applicant should have expertise in animal physiology, health, nutrition or genetics. The individual is expected to develop an extramurally-supported research program and generate significant scholarly outputs that will establish a national reputation in their chosen field. The individual will have an opportunity to collaborate with existing faculty working in immunobiology, microbiology, reproductive biology, nutritional biochemistry and other discipline-based areas of animal sciences. The individual will also be expected to interact with stakeholders in the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond. The candidate will have access to the Virginia Tech animal research herd facilities located on campus (Blacksburg), which is in the process of undergoing expansion and renovation. The individual also will have access to outlying research facilities at the Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Education Center (Raphine, VA), and at other Virginia Agricultural Research and Extension Centers located throughout the state. The teaching expectation component includes undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses in their area of expertise. Undergraduate advising and graduate education is required.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have: 1) a Ph.D. in animal sciences or a closely-related field; 2) a vision for developing a sustainable independent research program; 3) ability and willingness to develop collaborative programs; and 4) a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with 1) postdoctoral experience; 2) experience utilizing large animal models, and 3) grant writing experience.
