Job Description
Manages operations and analyses for soil and water analytical labs in the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences (SPES) and reports to managing faculty. Conducts chemical and physical lab analyses on soils, sediments, water, plant tissue and residual waste samples. Trains and supervises undergraduate research workers and coordinates all laboratory operations including analytical procedures, data compilation and reporting. Ensures compliance with QA/QC and data security protocols and follows established standard methods for all media. Manages Cost Center fiscal records and complies with university accounting standards.
Required Qualifications
M.S. degree in agricultural or natural sciences and/or the equivalent level of a B.S. plus appropriate training and experience. Experience in laboratory analyses of soils, sediments, wastes, plant tissue and/or water. Proficiency in MS Office applications. Experience in data entry, compilation, spreadsheet programming and basic statistical analyses.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with use of advanced instrumentation such as auto-titrators, elemental analyzers, ICP-MS, GC, DOC/TOC and sample digestors. Ability to effectively train and supervise undergraduate workers and coordinate work with graduate students and post-docs. Knowledge of field, greenhouse and growth chamber experimental procedures. Knowledge of field soil morphology. Experience with fiscal management including invoicing and other basic accounting procedures.
Pay Band
Salary Information - Commensurate with education, qualifications, experience
