Research Assistant Professor
Position Summary:
The Center for Injury Biomechanics (CIB) (www.cib.vt.edu) at Virginia Tech is seeking candidates for a Research Assistant Professor position within the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Mechanics (BEAM). The research focus of this position, which will be located on campus as well as the Corporate Research Center (CRC), will be to support and expand the experimental automotive and military safety research conducted at the CIB. The successful candidate will be expected to join the CIB, contribute to current externally funded projects at the CIB, engage in the teaching, training, and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students, obtain externally funded grants, and collaborate with other CIB faculty to advance the fields of automobile and military safety.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related discipline
-Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship, or high potential for such excellence
-Ability to articulate a coherent research agenda and identify potential funding sources
-Ability to work independently under limited or no supervision as well as within a research group
-Experience performing and/or overseeing large scale biomechanical tests (e.g., sled testing) with post mortem human surrogates, human volunteers, and/or crash test dummies
-Experience working with motion capture systems
Preferred Qualifications:
-Experience performing material and structural tests on biologic tissue
-Experience working with Vicon motion capture systems and TDAS data acquisition systems
-Experience processing, analyzing, and interpreting experimental biomechanical data
-Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate student research activities
-Familiarity with animal testing
- Good project management skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated creativity, strong work ethic, and high motivation
Appointment Type:
Restricted. The initial appointment is for one year. Continuation is based upon funding as well as performance.
Salary Information:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
