Quarry - Emergency HireVirginia Tech
The Quarry – Emergency Hire will assist quarry workers by performing a variety of tasks in the stone mason trade in support of the quarry operations in the Facilities Department on the VT campus.
Virginia Tech operates its own federally certified stone quarries. Hokie stone comes from the quarries located a couple of miles from the central campus.
Must be able to bend; stoop; and frequently, independently and safely move and handle items weighing up to 100 pounds or more, and the ability to reach, push and pull items.
Must be able to continuously be on feet standing and walking on rocky, uneven terrain.
Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, including hot and cold.
Previous experience in a large commercial or educational setting.
Previous construction or quarry experience.
Previous experience/education related to position.
Commensurate with Experience
Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 100 pounds or more.
Ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds.
Ability to work for long periods of time standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and pushing/pulling.
Work schedule may vary to meet the needs of the dept.
The successful Candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
