Proposal Preparation Specialist
Job Description
The Center for International Research, Education, and Development (CIRED) requires the services of a person to support project proposal preparation. The position supports the international mission of CIRED by helping to prepare high-quality responses to donor funding opportunities. The position reports to the CIRED Executive Director. The Executive Director may designate supervision and oversight of the position to directors of program and business development.
The position works closely with the CIRED program and business development team although specific assignments may vary on overall needs and priorities of the Center as it develops it project portfolio. The person in the position will work closely with the CIRED Executive Director and other CIRED faculty and staff. In performing her/his duties, the person in the position will interact with faculty and staff across the VT campus and with CIRED partners off campus.
This is a part-time, maximum 1500 hours per year wage position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Proposal Preparation Specialist will:
• Support efforts to identify, track, and gather information on funding opportunities
• Participate in proposal strategy development
• Support CIRED efforts to prepare winning proposals in response to funding opportunities
• Contribute to writing proposals, including conducting research and gathering inputs from Virginia Tech faculty and staff and from external partners
• Re-write and edit content from a range of proposal stakeholders on campus and off to achieve consistency of tone
• Incorporate comments from proposal reviewers
• Support efforts to ensure that proposals meet the requirements of and are compliant with funding calls
• Support quality control of proposals prior to final submission
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Proven ability to write persuasively and present technical information clearly and concisely
• Ability to take input from multiple sources and technical teams to produce harmonized content
• Ability to conduct research efficiently to inform proposal preparation information
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively on teams and under time constraints
• Ability to use computer and information management software
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in high pressure, deadline driven conditions
• Ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with individuals in a multicultural environment
• Strong planning, time management, and prioritization skills
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to travel internationally.
Writing/editing samples will be requested
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., English, communications, education, political science)
• International experience
• Experience as a proposal/grant writer in a university setting and/or with an international organization
• Familiarity of issues related to international development, e.g., public health, education, natural resources protection
• Demonstrated track record writing competitive proposals or concept notes for USAID, NSF, CDC, NIH, foundations, and other l donors
• Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Arabic a plus

Salary Information
Up to an hourly max of $18.50, based on experience
