Project Associate
Job Description
The successful candidate will lead the operation aspects of the research projects within VTTI’s Center for Public Policy, Partnerships, and Outreach (C3PO). Candidate will independently plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate detailed tasks as part of leading edge transportation policy, safety and engineering projects as well as administrative tasks in support of VTTI management. Successful candidate contributes to research conceptualization, proposal development, resource acquisition, asset allocation, timeline, and budget tracking. Candidate will help to manage and optimize workload by tracking the allocation of time and materials for each project. This position will hold the special research faculty rank of Project Associate.
Duties and responsibilities:
-Support project managers in conducting public policy related research projects
-Manage project budgets to ensure work can be completed on-time and within budget.
-Work with faculty and staff to standardize project documentation procedures.
-Interact with research faculty on a project-by-project basis
-Responsible for day-to-day project management of multiple projects and administrative and outreach activities
-Responsible for day-to-day financial administration to include, but not limited to, the tracking and managing of center budgets and report developments, labor distribution, and purchase allocation.
-Organize, attend, and participate in meetings as appropriate
-Contribute to proposal development
-Complete administrative assignments needed to support the C3PO center and larger VTTI organization.
Direction, feedback, and communication occur via multiple formats and environments. The successful candidate will apply sound professional judgement and coordinate the work of research assistants, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments. Seeks out technical guidance from counterparts on unusual or unfamiliar problems.
Required Qualifications
-Master’s Degree in Business Management, Government Management, Public Administration, or related field. An exception may be granted for for individuals with bachelor's degrees and significant relevant experience.
-Significant project management experience in conducting complex projects in an academic, research environment or equivalent experience
-Experience in budget management
-Creative, independent, and highly motivated, with good communication skills
-Strong work habits and the ability to work independently and with a team
-Strong organizational skills
-Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and administrative duties
-Ability to plan and implement research activities efficiently and effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
-Project Management Professional certification desired.
-Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and SharePoint.
