Program Assistant
Job Description
The Leadership and Social Change Residential College (LSCRC) is a community of 300 students ranging from first-year to senior students from all academic disciplines. Under the direction of the live-in Faculty Principal, the LSCRC consists of three residential "houses" of approximately 100 students. The Program Assistant (PA) will work closely with the Faculty Principal, student house council, resident advisors, student affairs staff, and others to ensure that the goals and aspirations of the residential college are fulfilled (see https://llp.vt.edu/residential_colleges/lscrc.html for more information). The Program Assistant position is primarily responsible for assisting the Faculty Principal and LSCRC staff with goals and facilitating the creation of a strong sense of community within the Residential College. This is a 1,500 hour per year (typically 20 hours per week) position.
Job responsibilities include:
• Support student recruitment, marketing, event planning, and program efforts
• Collaborate with internal and external constituents to advance the residential college’s mission
• Assist in the purchasing needs of the Faculty Principal, councils, and fellows.
• Assisting the Faculty Principal with the development of the residential college’s annual program assessment and report
• Supporting recitation instructors on experiential learning coordination
• Creating marketing materials for the residential college including the weekly newsletter, flyers, LSCRC website, and social media posts
• Support Graduate Residential Fellows in advising House Councils
• Recruit for and oversee the training, management, and meetings of the LSCRC Ambassador Team.
• Attend meetings and training relevant to Residential College programming
Required Qualifications
● Demonstrated experience in customer service and/or other related experience
● Experience providing administrative support in a professional office or academic setting including increased levels of responsibility
● Demonstrated interest and experience in relationship building including all forms of communication and presentation with an emphasis on strong written and verbal skills
● Strong proficiency in using and learning multiple software programs simultaneously such as MS Office programs, and G-Suite programs.
Preferred Qualifications
●Bachelor's Degree and/or related experience.
●Experience in a diverse educational setting with exposure to recruitment and admissions
● Familiarity and experience in HTML and web design
● Experience managing communications, public relations, social media presence and coordinating special events
● Established and superior problem-solving, time management and organizational skills
● Commitment to continuous skills improvement
● Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities
● Ability to learn quickly and work in a sometimes remote environment
Experience with learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
● Knowledge and experience with adobe creative suites (for marketing materials) and Zoom
● Positive demeanor and strong work ethic
● Ability to work independently and interpret as well as apply university and/or departmental policies and procedures
