Postdoctoral Associate
Job Description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Associate position. The successful candidate will closely collaborate with utilities and consulting firms in the Washington Metropolitan Area on industrial projects to develop advanced bioprocesses for resource recovery and pollutant removal from wastewater. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to be involved in grant writings, graduate student mentoring, and project leading. Specific job responsibilities include conducting lab and field experiments; writing project reports and research papers; and coordinating meetings with sponsors.
The position is immediately available. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for one year with possibility for extension based on available funding, need for service or performance.
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Biosystem Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
Preferred Qualifications
• Excellent writing skill and productive publication record.
• Research background in biological wastewater treatment.
• Self-motivated to lead research endeavor.
• Good personnel skills to interact with industrial collaborators.
• Desire to publish high quality research articles.
• U.S. driver’s license to drive trucks for field sampling.

Salary Information
$55,000/year. This position is a full-time, benefits-eligible position appointed on a 12-month service basis.
