Job Description

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC in the Addiction Recovery Research Center (ARRC), directed by Dr. Warren K. Bickel. The successfully selected candidate will work primarily on NIH funded projects that are providing new information about addiction, health behaviors, and decision-making. Several projects and associated Postdoc responsibilities are focusing on the use of the Experimental Tobacco Marketplace to investigate choice behavior among nicotine users from a behavioral economics framework. Other projects and responsibilities are focusing on the examination of Episodic Future Thinking to improve health in individuals with pre-diabetes, and, in a separate project, with remotely delivered interventions for those with alcohol use disorder. Moreover, ARRC has ongoing projects to examine the effects of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on cigarette smoking and overeating. The position is well suited for an individual interested in technology applications and behavioral economics in addiction and health behavior. Moreover, this position will be involved in developing pilot research programs in the areas of addiction, decision-making and other human interactions. The selected candidate will be expected to help develop these additional projects.

A Postdoctoral Associate will have responsibilities in the following areas:
1. Research Conceptualization – Coordinating with and assisting the PI in the design of
experiment and grant proposal methodology as well as methods for analyzing the results
of experiments.
2. Research Publications – Preparation of text, tables, and graphical information as
appropriate for dissemination in peer-reviewed publications, or presentation at
professional conferences or in book chapters.
3. Data Analysis – Analyzing the findings from research methods and transforming the
results into formats appropriate for dissemination in peer reviewed publications or
conference presentations or in formats that engender further analysis.
4. Project Management – Training and supervising research personnel to organize and
conduct study sessions.

Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a PhD in psychology, neuroscience, or appropriate related discipline and have a record of research excellence as indicated by peer-reviewed publications and presentations. Candidates are also expected to have a solid background in addiction or health behaviors research and/or behavioral economics.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with behavior analysis and/or addiction research clinical trials is highly desirable.
