Job Description

The Postdoctoral Associate will help develop an Alternative Protein program, focusing on bioprocessing, and fermentation of various proteins in the FutureFoods Lab at the Virginia Tech – Virginia Seafood AREC. The Postdoctoral Associate will work collaboratively with other team researchers and will supervise students as well. The position will be located in Hampton, Virginia, with programmatic linkages in the Departments of Food Science and Technology (FST), and Sustainable Biomaterials (SBIO).

Required Qualifications

A Doctoral degree in Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Material Science, Bioprocess Engineering or a closely related field, with PhD awarded no more than 4 years ago. Research experience in waste valorization, protein extraction, biomass conversion, and biomaterials development, and strong written and oral communication skills with ability to develop manuscripts, and assist in preparation of grant proposals and presentations are required.

Must already be able to work legally in the US (project timeline mandates immediate start).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in working on a multi-disciplinary research project with a proven track record of publications, self-motivated, and a team player. Working experience in plant-based proteins, enzymatic hydrolysis, protein modification, and extraction are highly preferred.
