Postdoctoral Associate, Neurosurgery
Virginia Tech
The Translational Neurosurgery Research Laboratory under the direction of Sandeep Mittal, MD at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC in Roanoke, VA is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate. The lab is studying potential signaling pathways that contribute to brain tumor growth and recurrence and performing preclinical studies to develop new therapeutic strategies. The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute is in the picturesque Roanoke Valley midway between Washington, DC and Charlotte, NC. The institute currently has 28 research groups, over 300 research and support team members, and a grant portfolio of over $125M.
The position duties include but are not limited to:
• Participation in the design and execution of in vitro and in vivo experiments
• Interpret biological data and communicate results in the form of papers and presentations.
• Participation in lab meetings, journal clubs, and seminar programs.
• Training and supervision of undergrad and graduate students.
• Apply for independent external funding.
• Prepare documents for regulatory approvals (IRB, IACUC, etc.)
Required Qualifications
• Ph.D. in cancer biology, molecular biology, neuroscience or a related field.
• Experience performing research with rodents.
• Experience in cell, molecular biological and biochemical techniques.
• Ability to work in a team science environment.
• Strong communication skills.
• High motivation and the ability to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with human tissues and cell lines.
