Job Description
The Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology in partnership with Virginia Tech Carilion seeks applicants for one post-doctoral research position in human factors or human computer interaction with a focus on social robotics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, electrophysiology, or related field. A PhD in human factors or related field is required by the start date and a demonstrated ability to seek funded research opportunities is expected. This position is available starting August of 2020 and is renewable for up to 2 years duration in total, depending on performance.
Functioning somewhat independently, the postdoctoral researcher will design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures, designing new protocols as appropriate, summarizing findings and publishing in peer reviewed journals. This individual will assume some specific operational responsibilities for the lab, providing supervision as appropriate to junior technicians, students and researchers.
Required Qualifications
- Doctorate in human factors or human computer interaction or related fields
- Programming experience
- Experience with databases such as Mongodibi, SQL
- Previous experience contributing to grants
- Previous experience writing papers for peer review
- Creative, independent, and highly motivated
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills; excellent technical skills
- Strong work habits
- Experience working in teams of varied back grounds
Preferred Qualifications
- A record of external funding with either signification contribution or lead level effort
- A record of papers accepted in relevant journals or conferences
- Experience working on externally funded grants from NSF and/or NIH
