Postdoctoral Associate CY
Job Description
The Physics Department at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Postdoctoral or Research Associate position (commensurate with experience) in quantum information or condensed matter theory. The research involves construction and analysis of quantum computing algorithms. Example areas of interest include measurement-based quantum computation, quantum simulation, and quantum many-body physics. Expertise in computational methods is highly desirable, but it is not a prerequisite. The position includes opportunities for travel both to present in conferences and to collaborate with other groups. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field.
This research will be conducted with Prof. Vito Scarola (scarola@vt.edu) and his research group at Virginia Tech (scarola.phys.vt.edu). The primary duties of the position will consist of research in the overlapping areas of quantum information theory and condensed matter, writing peer-reviewed publications, and presenting research results to a wider research community both regionally and internationally. The work will also require close collaboration and interaction with students, postdocs, and faculty members at Virginia Tech, as well as an international set of collaborators.
At the research associate level, this position will also entail collaboration with, as well as mentoring and supervision of junior researchers. Rank of position will be determined by qualifications and experience.
Qualified candidates must electronically submit an online application that includes a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and a list of at least 3 references to jobs.vt.edu.
Required Qualifications
All applicants must hold a Ph.D. in physics or a related field. Applicants for Research Associate positions must also have prior postdoctoral research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
