Postdoctoral Associate, Civil and Environmental Engineering
Job Description
A Postdoctoral Associate is required immediately to work on major research efforts and project management associated with two projects led by Dr. John Little in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Virginia Tech. Both projects focus on emission of and exposure to semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in indoor environments. Project 1 is an ongoing project that will validate and extend the consumer exposure tool DustEx. Project 2 is part of a larger modeling consortium with a focus on indoor and surface chemistry. The candidate will design and implement test chambers on a laboratory scale; take samples with thermal desorption tubes; analyze and evaluate data from the chamber experiments; operate and maintain the GC-FID; work with other modelers on the development of modeling tools to assess consumer exposure; aid with modeling of organic film growth on indoor surfaces; and coordinate research efforts and extensive collaborations.
Required Qualifications
PhD in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science or closely related field with experience in laboratory and modeling/data evaluation. Successful candidates should have an outstanding record of scholarship and doctoral/postdoctoral research. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Candidates should be able to work independently and collaboratively with researchers in other science and engineering disciplines.

Salary Information
$47,500 annually with benefits.
