Planning Architect I
Job Description
Lead design review and approval process for minor modifications and minor capital projects.
Assist both the Assistant Vice President for Planning and the Assistant Director in the development, review, and approval of campus planning and feasibility projects.
Assist in implementing the planning component of capital projects for OUP.
Assist in providing assurance that facility and space needs are being met by participating in capital program planning.
Assist in establishing design and planning standards for the university.
Work towards the enhancement of accessibility as it relates to the physical campus.
Participate in capital project design review and approval process.

Required Qualifications
Advanced degree in Architecture, or BS in Architecture and work experience equivalent
to an advanced degree.
Registration or demonstrated ability to be registered as a Professional Architect in Virginia within 12 months of employment.
Considerable experience as an architect.
Considerable experience as a project manager.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Proficiency with current office computer software including word processing and spreadsheets.
Proficient in the use of design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a university setting.
Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia (or other public agency) directives and higher education facilities requirements.
Experience in preservation architecture.
Experience in accessible design.
Knowledge of construction delivery scheduling software (MS Project, Suretrak, Primavera, etc.).

Additional Information
Repetitive movement through the use of computer/keyboarding.
Ability to travel to and from work sites and perform onsite inspections requiring bending, climbing, pushing/pulling, reaching, lifting, standing, walking and safely moving and handling up to 50 lbs.
Ability to maneuver in small spaces, walk, and perform work tasks on uneven surfaces.
Must have an acceptable and safe driving record.
Must have a driver's license check.
May be required to travel to non-Blacksburg sites and other Virginia Tech properties.
Travel for training, public outreach, public education, and public participation may be required.
As necessary, may be required to work after hours or on weekends.
The successful Candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check
