Operational Technology Application Support Specialist
Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Virginia Tech Electric Service Director, the Operational Technology Application Support Specialist will provide day-to-day application management of the several OT systems for the VTES Group including the OSI PI Soft System. This staff member - in coordination with the VTES Director, IT group and/or the OT Software vendors - will work to determine system changes and upgrades needed for system expansion as well as seek to identify any for potential impacts to the OT systems pre and post deployment. In a primary-role, this staff member will on a day-to-day basis check and maintain the integrity of the connections to the multiple systems the data is collected from and exported to, including the room scheduler. The staff member will also work closely with the IT group to ensure the data from the OSI PI Soft System is exported to the IT Utility Billing Software.
This position will also provide day-to-day support to assure the OT component of the OSI PI Soft system is functional, updated and maintains connectivity to the campus BAS and industrial controls systems that utilize IP, BACNet, Modbus, Hart, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and other protocols. This position will also maintain wired, wireless and wireless mesh network, and will also work with vendors that provide support and enhancements to the multiple systems supported by the Engineering and Energy Department. The successful staff member will be well versed in both IT and OT systems.
This position will coordinate software and hardware updates, access control, tree structures, database management and backups with Shared Services IT and OSIsoft or contracted OSI partners. The position will also provide support to campus users of the ODW applications, including updating screens, providing training and other support as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree OR education and experience that equates to a Bachelor’s degree.
Training in computer science or computer networking.
Years of progressively responsible experience with OT and IT Systems.
Experience in generating and reading network diagrams.
Ability to stay abreast of the latest OT & IT trends and recommend enhancements.
Experience in evaluating the security and setup PEN tests or other measures to identify system vulnerabilities.
Experience in reviewing physical OT infrastructure and recommending improvements to maintain resiliency and operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with OSI PI Soft Historian, BAS (DDC) Systems, Computer Networks, SCADA systems, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), Crystal Reports, SQL Databases and ARCGIS.
Training in the following areas:
• utility metering
• electronics
• steam boilers
• HVAC
• electrical or building automation
Knowledge of programming languages such C++, Python, and Visual Basic.
Knowledge of application program interfaces such as Restful API or SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol).
Knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems.
CCNA Certification preferred.
BAS and Industrial Control System certification preferred.

Ability to work in, on around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery.

Ability to wear and work in personal protective equipment.
Incumbent is deemed an Essential employee, subject to a 24 hour day, 7 day week span of operation.
The successful Candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
