Job Description
The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech combines the wide-ranging intellectual exploration of the liberal arts with the technological advantages of a leading research university and the civic engagement of a land-grant institution. The College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences seeks a creative, skilled, and versatile Marketing and Communications Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Specialist will play a major role in promoting the initiatives, research, and promise of a dozen academic departments, two schools, three ROTC programs, and several centers, in addition to telling representational stories of nearly 600 faculty members, 4,000 students, and 60,000 alumni.
The Specialist will help maintain the college’s website, as well as those of the academic departments. The Specialist will also play a major role in expanding the college’s social media reach; write content for the college website, the Virginia Tech news site, social media outlets, media pitches, and the college’s publications; and produce marketing collateral that promotes the college’s priorities and builds brand awareness, in alignment with the university master brand.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, or a related field
• Demonstrated excellence in writing
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Skill in using multiple communication platforms to deliver content
• An appreciation of the value of the liberal arts and human sciences in ensuring a strong and comprehensive university
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with management of social media content that promotes a brand
• Experience working with content management systems
• Experience using Adobe Creative Suite
• Excellent graphic design skills
• Excellent photography and videography skills
• Understanding of brand management principles and how they apply to storytelling

Salary Information
$40,000 - $45,000
