Lead Concrete Repair Tech
Job Description
Provides direction as a working lead craftsperson for a crew of trade people installing and repairing concrete walkways for ADA compliance across the main VT Campus. This work will include flat work, handrail installation/repair and other associated task to maintain walkways in compliance with the ADA. Will be called upon to coordinate activities and procure materials for projects as needed. Will assist Supervisor with documentation to submit for Building Permits. Will work closely with the Director of ADA and Access Services and the ADA Architect to identify pathways that are in need of repair, replacement or ADA compliance upgrades. Will also assist with asphalt walkway installation and repair when necessary.
Required Qualifications
Considerable experience at the journeyman level in concrete forming, placement and repair. Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to plan/schedule the work of others. Experience reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints, preparing cost estimates and interacting with diverse members of the University Community. Valid driver’s license, will be required to operate a motor vehicle daily. Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 75 pounds or more; ability to maneuver materials up and down stairs; ability to climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; ability to work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling; ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace. Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department. This is a designated emergency personnel position. Ability to arrive at main campus for emergency call backs within one hour when on call.
Preferred Qualifications
Related experience in a large commercial or educational setting. Experience operating skid-steers and/or backhoes. Working knowledge of asphalt paving
