Laboratory Specialist
Job Description
The laboratory specialist will perform experiments in a research laboratory in the Department of Biological Sciences. This laboratory focuses on bacteria using tools in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and protein science. Common techniques include PCR, molecular cloning, microbiology assays, protein expression and purification. Duties include planning, executing and documenting research experiments as directed by the PI, maintaining detailed records of procedures and results as well as laboratory maintenance and supervision of a dishwasher. The successful candidate should have a strong working ethic, good organization and time management skills. Must be available to work at least 20 hours/week.
Required Qualifications
Previous experience in a Molecular biology/Microbiology/Biochemistry research laboratory. Hands-on knowledge of techniques in microbiology and molecular biology. Must be available to work at least 20 hours/week.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant undergraduate/graduate degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related fields. Experience with microtiter plate assays, RNA and DNA work. Experience with independent research projects is highly desirable.
