Lab & Research Specialist
Job Description
A research technician is needed to oversee aquatic entomology projects, with an emphasis on supporting on-going field and laboratory projects supervised by Dr. Sally Entrekin. Primary responsibilities will include field work to remote areas often without cell phone reception such as southwest VA, Shenandoah National Park and other streams in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, macroinvertebrate and other common aquatic sample processing, and macroinvertebrate identification, data management, ordering materials and other aspects of lab management.
The candidate will be encouraged to participate in the design of experiments, statistical analysis of the results, and preparation of publications. Furthermore, the candidate will support proposal development through data processing, analysis and writing. The candidate will help manage the Entrekin Lab including interacting with graduate students.
Required Qualifications
• B.S. in biology, entomology or related field or equivalent, applicable experience.
• Knowledge of aquatic ecology
• Experience with ecological field work
• Experience working under less than ideal environmental conditions: e.g., winter and summer sampling that requires long hikes to field sites with heavy packs.
Preferred Qualifications
Include basic experience with aquatic field sampling techniques, identification of macroinvertebrates to the family level, and an interest in aquatic ecology and entomology.
