Lab Manager
Job Description
Lab manager needed for a virology laboratory in the Department of Population Health Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. The individual’s main responsibilities will be working with viruses (mainly HSV-1/HSV-2 and SARS-CoV-2) in BSL2/BSL3 laboratory environments, as well as administrative duties related to procurement, inventory, IBC/IACUC protocol management, and mouse colony management. Previous experience and proficiency in laboratory techniques is required, including sterile technique, cell culture, primary neuronal culture, virus inoculations/infections, plaque assays, PCR/qPCR, mouse handling and genotyping, guinea pig handling, animal necropsy and tissue collection, immunohistochemistry, training and supervision of students, and experience in BSL2/ABSL2 environments. Prior experience working in BSL3/ABSL3 lab environments, performing animal behavioral studies, proficiency with western blots and ddPCR, and proficiency with HokieMart procurement and IBC/IACUC protocol management systems, are a plus.
