Instructor of Technical Writing
Job Description
The Department of English at Virginia Tech invites applications for an Instructor position in Professional and Technical Writing to begin August 2020. Teaching load is 4/4. Responsibilities include teaching multi-section technical writing courses and participation in the department’s faculty development activities. Instructors are expected to work well with students from diverse backgrounds and to support the goals and methods of multi-section courses. Instructors are not required to serve on committees or in advising, but they may do so voluntarily. The appointment is for one year. The department gives priority to faculty who have served as instructors on restricted contracts should openings be available in subsequent years.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in professional and technical writing or related field, or a Master’s degree with relevant industry or teaching experience by time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching technical writing; experience with on-line writing instruction; and demonstrated ability to work well with diverse constituents. Occasional travel may be required.
