Fiscal Tech & Receptionist
Job Description
Fiscal Technician and Receptionist, providing fiscal and operational support to the Political Science department’s faculty, staff, and students. Position serves as first-point of contact in the main office. Essential duties to the operation of the unit include receptionist, fiscal, and business functions, including ability to address routine and non-routine fiscal issues; independently respond to request(s) by phone, electronically, or in person; prepare and process purchasing, accounting, TEM/travel, and reimbursement forms; daily mail distribution and prepare express mailings when necessary; assist department faculty and staff as needed. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with faculty and staff; position also serves as back-up to the office manager in personnel transactions, contracts, TimeClock.
Required Qualifications
Training/experience in performing tasks that support the operation of an academic and/or professional environment; previous customer service experience; demonstrated computer skills in database management, electronic spreadsheets, email, and internet; ability to prioritize and manage time effectively for performing multiple tasks; strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to work independently and interpret and apply university and/or departmental policies and procedures; ability to work with frequent interruptions, be detail orientated, prioritize work, solve problems, and perform multiple functions simultaneously; ability to perform technical duties such as reviewing and processing transactions, and to process accounting transaction, travel and general reimbursement transactions with accuracy and conformity to university policy; ability to work effectively in a small office, team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Virginia Tech’s Controller’s policies and procedures; demonstrated experience with financial systems such as HokieMart, Banner, Travel and Expense Management (TEM) system or comparable software; receptionist experience; database management; experience in working in a small office environment with frequent interruptions.
