Facilities Manager
Job Description
The Facilities Manager is responsible for planning and coordinating the day-to-day building operations in the Integrated Life Sciences Building. Reporting to FLSI’s Director, Facilities & Research Operations with a dotted line reporting responsibility to the Assistant Director, Research Operations for all lab operations activities, and working closely with ILSB’s Principal Scientist, the Facilities Manager’s primary day-to-day responsibilities include working with the Director to project facilities, infrastructure, and equipment needs and requirements; assisting with budget planning; ensuring shared laboratory equipment is serviced and repaired; monitoring building functions and automations; responding to occupant requests for service; interacting with Physical Plant personnel to resolve building-related issues; coordinating the activities of subcontractors and vendors on building-related matters; collaborating with other FLSI Facilities Managers to update space use data and to resolve common building-related problems; liaising with Environmental Health and Safety personnel and ensuring that facilities-related safety needs are addressed. The Facilities Manager may monitor activities related to new construction, renovations, and reconfiguration of space in ILSB and may consult with and advise FLSI management about these activities – occasionally representing the Institute’s interests on projects. The Facilities Manager will occasionally support facilities staff or activities in other FLSI buildings as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience and/or trades certifications. Experience in facilities operations and management including general knowledge of building utility systems. Ability to work cooperatively with laboratory staff occupying many different types of laboratories, serving as a resource for managing equipment use, equipment repairs and maintenance, equipment and facilities modifications, and shared laboratory spaces and their operations. Show evidence of effective analytical skills, including gathering facts, analyzing findings, and recommending solutions. Ability to remain current with training related to building and lab safety and waste management. Proficiency with basic computer software applications (e.g. Microsoft Office). Excellent customer service orientation along with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of university, state, and federal policies and regulations related to biological laboratory research operations and management, including BSL certified operations. Experience with project management for either renovations or new construction of commercial facilities.
