Electron Microscopy Lab Mgr.
Job Description
The Office of Research and Graduate Studies in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech invites applications from qualified individuals for a full-time position as Manager of the College’s Electron Microscopy Service Laboratory. Duties include and responsibilities will include:
• Consulting with and providing guidance to clients on optimal sample collection and fixation procedures
• Processing and sectioning samples for transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM/SEM)
• Ensuring the maintenance and operation of the transmission and scanning electron microscopes as well as auxiliary laboratory equipment
• Working with the College’s Good Laboratory Practice program to ensure adherence to GLP and other QA standards
• Coordinating sample billing and laboratory rates with College and University budget offices
• Some additional duties as assigned by Supervisor or Department Head . This position will work with other labs within the College and University.
Required Qualifications
BS in biology, histology, or other related fields or equivalent level of training and experience; Prior experience and/or training in electron microscopy (TEM and SEM); Previous experience in general laboratory operations; Knowledge and skill in producing digital electron photomicrographs; Competence in basic computer use including text editing and spreadsheets; Ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification by the Microscopy Society of America is desirable
