The school’s mission aligns within Virginia Tech’s motto, “Ut Prosim” (That I May Serve), with the school’s faculty members fulfilling the mission through the preparation of educational professionals, applied research, and high-impact outreach. The school promotes rigorous inquiry in all aspects of its teaching, research, and outreach, provides the leadership necessary to advance all educational systems, and engages in advocacy that ensures equity and accessibility to quality learning experiences for all members of a diverse and global community.

Please note that occasional travel site visits to other Virginia Tech campuses and for conferences and meetings is required.
The SOE offers licensure programs for teachers, counselors, and administrators, all of which are approved by the Virginia Department of Education.
