Content Creator (Video/Photo)
Job Description
University Relations is seeking a Content Creator (Videographer/Photographer) to join our team to produce, shoot, and edit video and still photos on the university’s activities for external and internal audiences. The Content Creator is a creative and imaginative storyteller who performs various functions of digital video production from concept to completion in an educational environment. The content creator will fulfill daily video and photo assignments that support and enhance Virginia Tech’s branding and campaigns and editorial needs, targeting and engaging a wide spectrum of audiences, from prospective and current students to alumni and donors, from industry partners to the general public.
The content creator will concept and develop storytelling ideas and also fulfill assignments in collaboration with a team of copywriters, designers and social media professionals. The content creator will work as a production crew of one when appropriate or draw from other in-house production resources when needed. Projects range from news-style videos and livestreaming for the university’s video platform, shareable videos for social media to photographs for print publications and event coverage in a variety of settings. The Videographer/Photographer will repurpose content for various platforms in way that works best for the given audience (e.g., aspect ratios for social media channels.) Assignments may occur concurrently and will often move from idea to completion same-day.
The ideal candidate will have academic and/or professional experience as a videographer, a video producer, or a similar role, working in a dynamic, high-energy agency or educational setting. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently, multitask, and work on multiple deadline-driven projects simultaneously. Work on nights and weekends is expected.
The Content Creator reports to the Associate Director of Visual Strategy. The team is positioned alongside the Design and Digital Strategy team in University Relations’ Creative Studio based at the main Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. The Content Creator’s efforts, and the Creative Studio’s efforts, are focused on supporting Advancement and university-level priorities and meeting the needs of Advancement and university colleagues.
