Computer Operations Tech
Job Description
Provide systems and networking administration and technical support to the Office of University Scholarships and Financial Aid (USFA). Administer the USFA network including all computers, printers, servers and peripherals. Research and recommend software solutions for office management issues. Recommend procurement of systems, networking and computing components, as needed. Maintain reliability of systems by monitoring, testing, troubleshooting, researching and monitoring emerging threats for area of responsibility. Routinely analyze the network for deficiencies and initiate and implement enhancements to the office networking system. Maintain a secure network environment, including the office web server and SSL certificates, and manage the office computing backup system. Manage all office software, hardware and peripherals installations. Provide solutions to USFA staff regarding daily computing problems. Maintain policies and procedures relating to all functions performed by this role. This position will require after business hours and weekend work during peak times and when the need arises. Perform other related duties as assigned.
This position is not telework eligible. Virginia Tech will not sponsor visas for this position.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent level training/experience in computer science or related field
• Experience with the administration of operating systems, such as Windows Server and Client, including setup, security, networking, internet applications and protocols
• Experience providing end user support including troubleshooting various computer hardware, software applications, and peripheral issues
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in a higher education environment
• Experience with virtual environments including Hyper-V Manager
• Experience with restricted local area network and Group Policy administration
