Compliance Specialist
Job Description
The Compliance Specialist is a member of the Financial Compliance Team in the Office of Sponsored Programs under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation.
The Compliance Specialist provides continuous monitoring of the financial transactions for sponsored research grants, cooperative agreements and contracts, to help ensure that the transactions comply with governmental, university and sponsor regulations, policies and procedures, and helps the university reduce the risks that would result from noncompliance. Is responsible for liaising with department leadership university-wide as well as university administrative service units. In addition, reviews selected transactions and compares expenditures to the requirements of the Uniform Guidance, university policies, award and sponsor terms and conditions, to ensure costs are allowable, reasonable and allocable to the project, and fall within the budget period/period of performance. Performs financial analysis, including actual vs. budget comparisons, funding burn rates, and adherence to rebudgeting authority. This position reports to the Director of Assurance and Outreach, who reports to the Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation, Sponsored Programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or significant relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated experience and/or college coursework with emphasis on accounting, finance, or government/business regulations and administration.
- Strong proficiency in using spreadsheets to manipulate, analyze, summarize, and report data. High proficiency in seeking solutions to own problems and finding efficiencies in business operations.
- Demonstrated ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with detailed information.
- Good communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project administration and/or project management experience preferably in a Research setting.
- Knowledge of a university administrative and accounting systems, practices and procedures.
