Job Description
The Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education seeks a Collegiate Assistant Professor in agricultural education. This is a 9-month (academic year), promotable appointment. The successful candidate will join a team of teaching and learning faculty with an emphasis on agricultural education. We are seeking an individual who can contribute by providing teaching and outreach efforts focused on contemporary agricultural science education, informed by the Vibrant Virginia initiative. Specifically, this person will work with the faculty team to serve school-based agricultural education, cooperative extension, and other local stakeholders in delivering contemporary agricultural education programs that address emerging community and economic development challenges.
The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, contribute to agricultural education outreach initiatives, and develop an applied research and scholarship agenda that addresses the state and regional workforce development needs in both rural and urban communities.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in agricultural education, science education in the context of agricultural education, or a closely related field.
- Three or more years of successful secondary teaching experience.
- Experience advising student organizations.
- Experience conducting applied research.
- Ability to work with constituents and a student body from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity to issues of diversity in the campus community.
- Demonstrated command of concepts and theories associated with teaching and learning in agricultural education contexts.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as expertise in utilizing technology in communication.
- Perform as a team member in a department that includes agricultural, leadership, and community education programs that work in concert to achieve the goals of the unit.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of successful secondary agricultural teaching experience.
- Demonstrated skill in teacher education and continued professional education.
- Experience with exceptional learner populations.
- Experience with extension education.
- Demonstrated university teaching expertise.
Salary Information
