Clinical Laboratory Scientist
Job Description
Primary technologist for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing, both in histopathology and serology at Virginia Tech Animal Laboratory Services (ViTALS). In Histopathology, process tissue specimens for histologic sections for clinical diagnosis, perform routine and special staining techniques on tissue sections. In the Serology Laboratory, perform serology testing.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors’ Degree in clinical laboratory science or related field plus MLS(ASCP) or HT(ASCP) or eligible. Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and general histological techniques and procedures. Must work cooperatively with others and demonstrate thorough understanding of all procedures and processes required to perform all work assignments. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a limited time frame. Excellent verbal and written skills. Must be able to tolerate rabies prophylaxis. This position is considered essential and must report to work during emergency and inclement weather closings.
Education, Licensure, Certification required for entry into position:
BS: laboratory science, chemistry or biology and MT(ASCP), MLT(ASCP); OR HT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP), or eligible
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a medical or veterinary diagnostic laboratory setting.
