Clinical Instructor Surgery
Job Description
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a 1-year Clinical Instructor position in Small Animal Surgery. The successful candidate will join a team of four other small animal surgeons.
The primary job responsibility will be to alternately lead one of two surgical services (orthopedic or soft tissue) and participate in laboratory and small group clinical instruction. There will a minimal orthopedic obligation (3 weeks), with the majority being soft tissue.
Additional service responsibilities include consultations within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and outside referring veterinarians. When assigned to clinical service, they will have primary responsibility of patient care and supervision of students, interns, residents, and graduate students from various disciplines.
Applicant must be committed to excellent patient management, client service and clinical teaching.
Teaching responsibilities will include clinical instruction in surgery and related disciplines. Other teaching assignments may include operative and other related teaching laboratories.
Participation in general small animal surgery service activities such as meetings, resident seminars, journal club and rounds is expected.
We will consider candidates who have finished residency training and are preparing for surgery boards. In this circumstance, we will consolidate most of the off clinic time (10 weeks) to just prior to the board exam.
Some assistance can be provided for student loan repayment.
Required Qualifications
DVM or equivalent degree by date of hire. Employer will accept degree that is equivalent to DVM or foreign equivalent of DVM by date of hire.
Successful completion of an approved residency training program by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and/or the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) by date of hire.
Must be eligible to obtain a Virginia faculty license by the date of hire.
Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings.
Background check is required.
Good interpersonal skills and team player.
