Classroom & Program Support Specialist
Job Description
The main objective of this position is to provide administrative, logistical, and technical support for classrooms, programs in Teaching & Learning Engagement, and various other projects and events. The Classroom & Program Support Specialist will lead efforts around classroom support, including coordinating a group to establish and enforce policies related to classroom use, assisting the director in facilitating relationships with campus partners, and supporting patrons’ use of the spaces. This position also assists with scheduling classrooms, fields technical concerns, schedules foundational instruction workshops, classroom support meetings, supports other events, and performs activities related to customer service for the unit. This position is responsible for additional administrative functions of the unit as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Apps
- Experience providing administrative support in a professional office or academic setting
- Experience scheduling and coordinating events and/or meetings
- Excellent communication and partnership skills with the ability to engage in cross-functional collaboration
- Must be able to prioritize tasks, perform multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with little supervision and to work within a deadline
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for working with the public/campus community (i.e., events, community engagement activities)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Knowledge of Virginia Tech, particularly policies related to ordering, scheduling, maintenance requests, etc.
- Experience answering a multi-line phone and directing inquiries appropriately
- Experience supervising projects and/or students
- Experience managing and/or organizing technology for educational purposes
- Experience teaching others in an academic, community or other settings, such as tutoring
- Knowledge of teaching and learning initiatives, such as the Portfolium ePortfolio platform
