Child Care Services Classroom Aid
Job Description
Child Care Services Wage Pool positions perform various tasks as a Classroom Aide. Typical work may include supporting Lead Classroom Teacher in planning and execution of activities, professional development and training, general child care (diapers/toileting included), playing and engaging with young children in meaningful ways, lifting moving or carrying children as needed, and other tasks as required. Positions require compliance with qualifications as outlined by the Virginia Department of Social Services, as well as good communication, interpersonal and time-management skills. Some flexibility of schedule is also required.
Required Qualifications
Must study and have a thorough knowledge of the Little Hokie Hangout Employee Handbook within 7 days of hiring
Knowledge of and experience in early childhood programs, such as experience in child care, child development, or early education
Demonstrated ability to perform general administrative tasks
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to teach effectively and build relationships in a learning community
Willingness to adapt prior experience and skill to the philosophy and goals of the program
Must submit to and pass multiple background and criminal record checks
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in curriculum planning and implementation
Experience with documentation of learning experiences
Coursework towards certificate or degree in child development, childcare administration, early education, or a related field, or significant supervised programmatic experience
Strong background in early childhood and/or cooperative childcare programs
Comprehensive understanding of State licensing and accreditation standards that affect programming, enrollment policies, health and safety of children and teachers, interactions between children and adults, and classroom environments.
CPR/first-aid certified. (This can be handled upon hiring, but will require extra time out of the classroom)
AMAT/EMAT/PMAT certification
Teaching experience at any level
$8/hr
