Job Description

The Department of English at Virginia Tech invites applications for an open specialization tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Rhetoric and Professional & Technical Writing to begin August 2020. Responsibilities for the position includes research and publication in Rhetoric and Professional & Technical Writing; teaching in our undergraduate Professional & Technical Writing (PTW) Program and our Ph.D. program in Rhetoric & Writing (RW); serving on departmental, college, and university committees; and mentoring and advising students from diverse cultural backgrounds. We encourage candidates whose research, teaching, and/or service has prepared them to meaningfully contribute to social justice, equity, and inclusion efforts at Virginia Tech and in the discipline of Rhetoric & Writing and/or Technical Communication more broadly. The standard teaching load is 2/2.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in hand by 1 August 2020 in Rhetoric & Writing or a related field; the promise of significant research and publication; evidence of successful teaching; and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion, including experience working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

Publication in Rhetoric & Writing; ability to teach a variety of courses in the PTW and RW programs.
